Absolutely, positively they need to make vB PWA. That's the only thing Xenforo has over vBulletin's head, IMO.

That's right. You can save the website as a bookmark on your home screen and it'll function just like an app with notifications and all.

I wish it would progress further, but I'm sure there's a lot involved to this is the last I've seen.

This is something we've thought about and there is some work ongoing that would bring the mobile version of the website closer to working as a PWA.

The styles are already responsive and work on Mobile devices, better than the stand alone app in my opinion. However, the browser version doesn't support notifications yet so that is something that needs to be worked on. Plus we need to add a few icons for bookmarking purposes. Though people can already bookmark a vBulletin site to their device's homepage using the OS of the device. I am sure there are other things that make it a little easier to work like an app but those will need to be fleshed out more before implementing them.
