How often do you create new topics on your forum?

Do you think it's important for forum admins/owners to frequently post new topics no matter the size of the community?

It's essential if you're dealing with a non-niche topic, I think. When it's a free-for-all, people lose interest if they don't know what to focus on.

Niche and hobbyist forums tend to thrive organically, drawing in the "fanboys" that are aligned around shared interests. So it seems less necessary in those forums.

Depending on the forum I think it's essential that new topics are started to inspire the members. Picking topics that get people responding is the key and that's not always so easy.
