    Competing forums

What's your policy for competing forums?

If a forum owner of another forum just like yours joined and linked to their competing forum on their signature or profile - would you allow it?

What would be the reasoning for you not allowing it?

If you chose to allow it - is there any particular reason why?

My views on this is if they contacted me first requesting it I'd probably allow it. If they just assume I'll agree with it then it's time for a conversation. I'd expect some sort of exchange ie they will mention my forum on their site if they can link their site on mine.

If signature links are appropriate for the forum theme, I'll usually allow competing forums to be linked as long as I can do the same on theirs. If not, then they can't. I feel like that's fair.

To me it depends on the person. If it's a well-known person on the forum and they're actively engaged and not just hanging around to poach members, it wouldn't bother me. But if it was a rando that's there to advertise, I wouldn't allow it.

I think looking at it on an individual basis is a good idea, as well!
