Multi-Quotes is a feature that allows you to quote multiple replies in a thread. For example, if you post a new topic and two out of three people who commented asked a follow-up question, instead of replying to each one and making two additional posts, you could quote each one in one post and answer their questions in that post.
Using the multi-quote feature is easy but can be challenging to figure out if you’re not used to it.
This guide will help you use the multi-quote option and get you familiar with the process.
Step 1 – Enable Multi-Quotes
Login to your Admin Control Panel.
Toggle the dropdown menu on the Settings tab to the left.
Click Options.
One the Options page, scroll down to Message Posting and Editing Options, click on it to highlight it, then press the Edit Settings button.
Make sure the top option (Multi-Quote Embedded) is set to YES.
The next option (Multi-Quote Quote Limit) will allow you to choose how many multi-quotes can be used in a post. I typically set mine to about 10. This is personal preference, though.
After you are done, make sure you scroll down the page and press the Save button.
That’s it! Multi-Quotes is now enabled.
Step 2 – Multi-Quote Instructions
On your forum, find a post that has several replies to test your multi-quote and understand how it works.
Quote the first post you can quote by pressing the “Quote button. This will turn the “Quote button orange and then send a quoted post down to the quick reply box.
Now scroll back up and press the “Quote button on another post. This will turn the “Quote button orange and then a new button will appear on the top left hand side of the forum as Post Reply(x) where “x” is the number of posts you’re quoting. Press this button and it will send all the quoted messages to the quick reply box below all the posts in the topic.
It formats it in BB code so make sure you reply after the closing BB code on each quote.
That is all there is to it.
Final Thoughts
Multi-Quotes are a great feature to expand the engagement benefits on your forum. By using the instructions above, you’ll be an expert at multi-quoting in no time.
